Portraiture

•  My model was my sister Kait, and she is a very versatile person, so I tried to capture three very different sides of her. She currently lives in D.C. and attends grad school at Georgetown, which is obviously a very professional environment, hence the business attire in the shots of her in the field. I really likes the field as a background, and I thought the colors in her clothing worked well with the colors of the field, so I placed her there instead of in a more urban, professional setting because it was more pleasing to the eye. She also used to play field hockey for CV and is very sporty, so I had her wear a CVFH t-shirt as another outfit, to show her more sporty side. In addition, she grew up in our house which is a working farm, so I placed her in the hayloft and by the horse barn in work boots and more farm-like attire to showcase her upbringing at our farm.
• I really liked this assignment. I learned a lot with editing during this unit, and that is something that I will use in my photography probably until something easier comes along. Also, I really appreciated the guest-speakers we had during this unit, and I think I learned a lot from them, and took their advice to get the best pictures I could. It was fun to shoot and fun to edit, and it was very personal, allowing for a lot of variety of photos in the class, which isn't something we did a lot in Photo 1. I am pleased with my end results for most of the pictures. There are a few that I wish I could just restart completely on, and a few that I think I could have spent more time editing on, but overall, I am pleased. My expression panel is simple, but I really like that too.I think it looks nice.
• Kait really liked the pictures. I sent them to her in an email earlier this week, and she made one her profile picture on Facebook, and posted one to Instagram, so I think she was happy with them as well. She always likes having pictures of her taken.
• Really try to plan what you are going to do before you go out and do it, because I did feel a little rushed when I went out and did this assignment, and didn't reserve a specific time, and the weather turned out not to be the best. Listen to what the guest-speakers say because that really helps, and don't take pictures too fast because a lot of mine turned out blurry. Also, don't overthink your editing because sometimes it can ruin the photo.
• The most challenging aspect of this assignment for me was the conditions outside when we did the photo shoot. It was windy and cold and unbearably bright, so most of the pictures turned out awkward or dark or flat, and required more editing than should have been necessary. However, I think I handled it well when I edited, and I think I took the tips we learned in class and applied them well while putting my own spin on the pictures.
